  • Deconstructing Pseudoscience
    Dr. Charles M. Wynn, Sr.,
    Emeritus Professor of Chemistry, Eastern Connecticut State University

    Dr. Charles M. Wynn, Sr., Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at Eastern Connecticut State University, created and taught an Honors Colloquium titled “Science vs. Pseudoscience.” He co-authored its textbook, Quantum Leaps in the Wrong Direction: Where Real Science Ends… and Pseudoscience Begins, which was just published in a second edition by Oxford University Press. Dr. Wynn is co-author of a quintet of books about science, pseudoscience and religion that has been translated into twelve languages. Several of his articles have been published in Skeptical Inquirer. He is a recipient of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry Skeptic’s Toolbox “In the Trenches” award.

  • Is functional MRI the new Phrenology?
    Dr. Fred Nour: Neurologist, Mission Hospital, California,
    Lecturer at University of California, Irvine

    Dr. Fred Nour is a Baylor trained Neurologist who is board certified in both Neurology and Neurophysiology. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of London. He teaches Neurology part time at the University of California Irvine and previously at the University of Illinois. When his daughters went to college, they faced many misbelieves about love that are based on pseudoscience, so he wrote the book True Love: How to use science to understand love, to sort out the facts from fallacies.

    Professor, United States Air Force Academy

    Craig Foster is a psychology professor in the Behavioral Sciences and Leadership Department at the United States Air Force Academy. He received his PhD in social psychology from the University of North Carolina. His research interests include scientific reasoning, skepticism, and pseudoscience.

    Parul Chouhan completed her Bachelor's in Dental Surgery in 2014 from Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu and Kashmir, India. In 2015, she began her studies toward a master of science degree in healthcare management from Cal State LA.

    William M. London is a professor of public health at Cal State LA; a coauthor of the college textbook Consumer Health: A Guide to Intelligent Decisions; associate editor of Quackwatch's free, weekly e-newsletter Consumer Health Digest; the "Renegades & Rascals" online columnist for Skeptical Inquirer; and a consultant to the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry.

    Rodney Schmaltz is an Associate Professor at MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His research focuses on pseudoscientific thinking, with an emphasis on strategies to promote and teach scientific skepticism. Dr. Schmaltz strives to better understand why people believe in strange things like ghosts, aliens, or psychic powers and works to find strategies to help combat these beliefs. Dr. Schmaltz is the co-author of two introductory psychology textbooks.
